Cleveland Square

Cleveland Square now a car park and for a while given over to the market on a Wednesday, was once the site of 10 cottages The cottages stood on the east side of the square with their backs to the land now owned by the Co-op. Opposite, on the side adjacent to Miller’s Court, was a line of water closets and outbuildings. Settle Rural District Council purchased the cottages from the Foster family on 13th October 1957 and the area was cleared and made into a car park in 1964.
